German citizens generally require a visa to enter Vietnam. The good news is that tourist stays of up to 45 days are visa-free, provided you have a passport that is valid for at least six months. This regulation was introduced in recent years and makes entry into the country much easier.
If your stay exceeds 45 days or you want to be on the safe side, you can apply for an e-visa. This can be done online via the Official website of the Vietnamese Immigration Service and costs around $25. The e-visa is valid for stays of up to 90 days and is usually issued within three business days. You will need a scan of your passport, a passport photo, and a credit card for payment.
Another option is the visa on arrival, but this is only available for air travelers and requires prior approval, which you must apply for through an agency. This method is often cheaper but less convenient, as you have to queue at the airport to pick up your visa. For Hell Week participants, the e-visa or visa-free entry is the easiest and most stress-free option.
Important: Check the current entry requirements shortly before your departure, as visa regulations are subject to change. The website of the Department of State or the Vietnamese Embassy provides you with the latest information.
